So, the graphics card has calculated some pixels more than one time. In short, for each light, your vertex shaders need to do a lot of work, and your pixel shaders need to process many more pixels than there are pixels in your screen. Using deferred rendering, you will perform this operation only once, during the first step. After this, you will do some per-pixel processing on the textures for each light. For each step like this, you will process each pixel exactly one time. The final step of combining the color and shading map involves another per-pixel processing step. In short, your 3D scene needs to be transformed to screen space only one time. For each light, your graphics card will need to process each pixel of your screen exactly one time. In comparison, your vertex shader will have to do a lot less, and when using multiple lights, your pixel shader will also have to process a lot fewer pixels when using deferred rendering.
